Food Glorious Food is a locally owned Italian restaurant in Tallahassee. I chose to visit this restaurant because it is well-known among the foodies of Tallahassee. The restaurant has been open for over 27 years and prides itself among a changing menu and fresh ingredients. The title alone made me curious of what kind of food awaited me.
Atmosphere: Hmm, this can vary greatly depending on where you sit. They have 3 difference choices for the atmosphere. They have one outside sitting area and 2 inside areas. The outside area is your basic cafe setup. A bunch of round tables with umbrellas. It’s relaxing as long as the weather is nice.
There are two different indoor seating areas. The first one is the “fine dining” area. I can’t review this area as I did not sit in it. I can tell you from walking through it that it is a typical “fine dining” atmosphere. I sat in the other indoor area which is modeled after a bakery. The seating is casual, there are bright colors/paintings on the wall, and a big display case is front and center to display all the deserts they offer. Don’t look at the display case if you are watching your weight, you will end up ordering desert.
Only complaint I have about the atmosphere is that 2 of the 3 dinning areas are much smaller than the other (the fine dining area is the largest). On a busy day you might not have a choice of where to sit.
Lots of variety in the atmosphere and all of it serves its purpose. The atmosphere gets a 4.5 out of 5.
Service: We arrived at the restaurant around 5:30. It had just reopened from lunch so they weren’t busy. The waiter had a kind demeanor. We were led to the bakery type seating area.
When we were ordering the waiter asked if we would like bread with our meals. I wasn’t sure if the waiter was suggesting an appetizer or if it was complementary. I said yes and decided to find out. It ended up being free. I would have liked the waiter to have been a bit more clear when asking. A person feels cheap if they need to ask “is it free”?
The food took longer than I would have liked to get to the table, but considering how everything is fresh and cooked to order it made sense.
The service gets a 4.5 out of 5.
Food: I am a sucker for yeast rolls. There is something about the texture of the roll and melted butter that just makes the bread for me. These complementary rolls were no different. Light, airy, with just enough crust to them. They were great. The butter even tasted as if it was made from high quality cream.
I ordered pan-fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, peppercorns, and fried green tomatoes. This recipe was masterful. The chicken was flavorful with a nice crunch. the gravy had a nice smooth texture with both a sweet and saltines to it. The peppercorns were fresh. the mashed potatoes were creamy with a bold flavor. The tomatoes had a crunchy outside with a soft inside. I had never had fried green tomatoes before but I will order them every chance I get now. All of these ingredients were fantastic by themselves. Yet, eaten together, it was a whole new thing. Every part of this recipe was in balance with the rest of it. The entrée was perfect.
The restaurant is known for it bakery items and there is a reason for it. I ordered a brownie stuffed with homemade caramel. It came with fresh whipped cream on the side. The brownie had a great chocolate flavor. The caramel on the inside was one of the best I have ever tasted. It was sticky, sugary, and delicious. The whipped cream was great but I would have rather had some vanilla ice cream on the side. This dish was begging to be served a la mode.
I do want to provide a quick not on pricing. Food glorious Food is not cheap. My chicken was $22 dollars and the brownie was $7. A total of $29 dollars for just me. To me, expensive is justified because its hot, fresh, and prepared with much care. I think if they lowered the price just a bit it would go a long way though.
The food gets a 5 out of 5.
Overall: I would be lying if I didn’t say this is one of my favorite places in Tallahassee. Because of their ever-changing menu I can go back whenever I want and never need to worry about getting the same thing often. Take your time when you eat this food.
