Let’s start with the end of day 1 before I talk about day 2.
First stop of the night, Boone’s
continue reading:Even though I am only 25, I felt old at this bar. Many of the people there had either just turned 21 or had fake IDs. A large group of these people sat in a circle. They were in town from Jersey. It showed.
They had an indoor area, a dance club area, and an outside area. We sat outside.
We opted not to go back the next night. On the plus side, they had Pimms which is hard to find in Tallahassee Bars.
Next we headed to Proof (not the one in Tallahassee)
This place was fantastic. Great atmosphere, food, drinks, and bartenders – a perfect mix.
This is Peanut Hummus
Basically it’s boiled peanuts with a few extra things blended to the consistency of hummus and served with bread/characters. It’s a great dish that I never would have thought of.
Here is a view of the bar – it was brighter than my iPhone makes it seem.
First drink – Pimms Cup
Next dish – Local goat cheese and honey served with grapes and bread – really fresh tasting. The honey had something special about it though.
The chef showed me that the honey had a ton of fresh rosemary leaves marinating in it which gave it a great flavor.
They call this drink a dark and stormy. Dark rum, house made ginger beer, and lime – really liked this drink.
Now, on to day two.
Started the day by heading to the local farmers market. Lots of great art, food, drinks, and many other things to see.
A yoga marathon was going on.
Very pretty city all around.
First food stop of the day – empanadas
Filled with pulled chicken, lemongrass, jasmine rice, and korean BBQ sauce. I enjoyed this a lot.
Smoked Olive Oil – I had never had this before. The smoke gives great depth to the oil.
Special shout out ot the guys at the Cannon Beverage Company. Best soda I have EVER had. These guys do it right. Can’t wait til they get big enough to bottle the stuff. I would buy a case right now.
I would kill for this recipe for the Honey Basil Soda I had – it was unreal. I know it was made with a local honey and basil simple syrup and lemon/lime flavors.
Final food eaten at the farmers market: Roti Rolls
Braised short ribs, kimchi, and mac and cheese – the flatbread had a great butter crunch to it. The whole thing was topped with a buttermilk sarachi sauce. Really awesome.
Doing touristy things:
Look for the rest of day 2 and day 3 coming soon!
